When the season started for Annandale, one of the defining questions was whether they could knock off one of the power-teams from the Concorde District. Even though the Atoms had been successful in the Patriot District in recent years, they lacked a truly defining win — a win that will be remembered in Annandale’s considerable lore.
Boys’ Lacrosse: Falls Church 10, Washington-Lee 4

With Falls Church needing a win on its Senior Night to tie Yorktown for first place atop the National District standings, senior Jake Long wasn’t about to let his team down. The standout senior, who quarterbacked the Jaguars’ offense from behind the goal for most of the night, netted three goals and added four assists to help guide his team to a dominant 10-4 win over Washington-Lee.
Candidates line up to take Bond’s Senate seat in 2010

U.S. Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., announced Thurday that he would not seek re-election to a fifth term to the U.S. Senate in 2010.
Bond, who was elected to the Senate in 1986 after serving terms as Missouri’s governor and auditor, is the third Republican senator to announce his intention not to seek re-election, joining Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and Florida Sen. Mel Martinez.
Missouri house committee passes budget to the floor

The Missouri state budget passed through the House Budget Committee on Wednesday night and will now move to the House floor.
Committee members heard about 100 amendments to the initially presented budget by House Budget Committee Chairman Allen Icet, R-Wildwood. The hearing, which ended at around midnight, left both sides satisfied with parts of the budget and frustrated with other sections, which was divided and passed as 13 separate bills.
